Vanity Fair
Watched Vanity Fair today partly because it's a new movie and partly because there's nothing else to watch. All in all, the movie expected my modest expectations. I liked Reese Witherspoon's character, but sometimes she's pretty scheming. The first romance with Fat Joseph was very fake...she was totally in it for the money. Some interesting things I noted from the movie.
Not all the actors spoke with an English accent? I thought the movie was set in England, but somehow, we get quite a bit of Americanized English accents...but I guess that's acceptable. If Emilia's father had gone broke, how come his brother was still living like a king in India with all the elephants? Couldn't he spare some money for his old man? The actor that played George Osbourne...took me up till just now to remember him as the coach in Bend It Like Beckham. This is definitely not his best movie, I gather, since he gave a rather lame performance. If I was Rodin, I would have seen the cuckolding coming a mile away...but I also don't quite understand why Rebecca would stash away a thousand pounds in the table. That's just wrong...And finally...the last 2 scenes were not that believable...like Emilia would just discover she loved Dobin all along? Does that happen in real life? And How on earth can Joseph be passing through Germany enroute to India???
Guess that's enough spoilers for today...
