Stayed home from work

Today was the first big storm of the year, and it took Torontonians completely by surprise. (Are we called Torontonians?) I woke up at 6:30 and shovelled snow till 7:30. But when I was done, the parts I had shovelled before was already under another centimeter of snow. I got fed up and decided to sleep through the snowing. So I came back inside and emailed my manager, telling him I can't make it for the morning. Then I promptly went back to bed.

Bad idea. When I awoke again at 11, it had started to rain. Freezing rain to be exact. Sure, it looked pretty to see trees and porches covered with a thick layer of ice, but the same sense of beauty did not apply when one sees one's car being covered under an inch of ice. Literally. I was chipping away at my car until 12:30 pm, when I gave up again. Although I was able to get the car door open, the windows were still blanketed by ice. I took it as an omen that I shouldn't go to work.

Another bad idea. Turns out, my manager was looking for me, because I was the person running a batch of daily reports for back office. Sigh...and to top it off, I had left my phone inside my work bag, inside my room, while I had lunch and then took a nap (to rest my tired body) on the sofa. By the time I finally checked my phone, it was 5 pm. Dang dang dang dang. Not a good way to leave an impression.

To make a long story short, I gotta apologize to all my coworkers. Sorry I let you guys down. Next time, I'll try to keep my phone handy.

J
